WARRENSVILLE, Ill. - With their sights solidly set on the early November Crossroads League Championships, the Maple Leaf men's cross country team continued its preparations at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday.

The Maple Leafs tallied 103 points to finish fourth place out of 17 participating teams.  The only teams to finish in front of them were a pair of nationally recognized NCAA DIII programs, including #1 North Central College, and a NCAA DII program in Saint Joseph.

Despite the quality competition, freshman Ryan Smith was able to continue the spectacular start to his collegiate career.  He won his second individual title in three meets, running a championship time of 25:27.93, the second fastest time in program history.  The freshman now holds the two top times in program history after breaking the school record with a 25:19 two weeks ago.

A pair of juniors and a pair of freshmen rounded out the top five for the Leafs, all finishing in the top 40 in the field of more than 200.

Junior Alejandro Rodriguez shaved four seconds off his career best - also at the Benedictine Invitational - to finish 25th overall in 26:38.45, while classmate Daniel Zelaya clocked in at 26:46.75 to finish 29th.

Freshmen Daniel Klink (33rd, 26:54.06) and Isaiah Friesen (36th, 26:58.89) gave the Leafs four finishers across the line in less than a 21 second span.

All told, Goshen had 13 runners finish the 8k course at St. James Farm in less than 30 minutes.  They have two weeks before they return to action at the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich. on October 26.
