WARRENSVILLE, Ill. – Less than a minute, twenty seconds separated the Maple Leaf women's top five runners as they finished eighth at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational Friday night.
Anna Castanza was the lead runner for Goshen for the first time in her career, finishing 34th overall in 24:40.63. Three more Maple Leafs clocked in finishes in the top 50 of the field of more than 150.
Sophomore Irene Schmid had her highest team finish as the second Leaf across the line in 25:07.01 (43rd). Junior transfers Michelle Moyer (46th, 25:13.00) and Mollie Nebel (50th, 25:27.32) were also in the top 50.
Despite missing several runners due to injuries, the Goshen depth was still on display as nine Leafs finished the 6k course at St. James Farm in less than 30 minutes.
Goshen has one more meet in preparation for early November's Crossroads League Championships when they travel to Grand Rapids for the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational on October 26.
